Author introduction:
Dr. Wynne Davies was born at the Ceulan Stud, Talybont, Aberystwyth. His father Mr E S Davies had been a member of the WPCS since 1915 and some of Wynne's current ponies can be traced back to ponies bred by his grandfather's uncle in 1894.
Wynne first joined the Welsh Pony and Cob Society in 1948.
In 1957, he graduated with a Ph.D. at the UCW in Aberystwyth.
He was then appointed Head of Chemistry at the South Glamorgan Institute / UWIC in 1959 and bought Ceulan Farm, near Miskin, Llantrisant.
Wynne has held many roles within the Welsh Pony and Cob Society. He has been a Member of Council of the WPCS since 1955; Assistant Publicity Officer 1958-1978; Publicity Officer 1978 to date; and President of the society in 1984.
He is also an Honorary Life Vice-President of the society.
A keen author, Dr Wynne has written 10 books on Welsh Ponies and Cobs with the 11th book due out in 2008.
He was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace in 1995.
Since 1953, he has been a member of the Panel of Judges and judged all over the world, including in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, and the USA.
Wynne also judged the supreme horse and supreme pony at the Horse Of The Year Show in 2007.
He is a prominent figure in the Royal Welsh Show every year, as he has been a Main ring commentator at the Show since 1977, and was awarded the Sir Bryner Jones trophy in 2002.
At home at Ceulan Stud, Wynne breeds about 10 to 15 foals annually. He has won championships at major shows many times e.g. he is a five-time winner at the Royal of England show. On home ground, he is also a winner of the Royal Welsh progeny competition 11 times.
