Meat Promotion Wales undertake a wide range of work on behalf of Welsh farmers - from work developing the agricultural industry to marketing lamb and beef in the European countries and beyond.
We are the strategic body for promoting and development the Welsh red meat industry and our aim is to develop profitable and sustainable markets for the benefit of all the stakeholders in the supply chain in Wales.
An element that is quickly becoming more and more important for us in Wales is our work in educating the public about the importance of eating a balanced diet - which includes red meat.
Last week our first bilingual cookery book was launched which has been especially targeted towards children - Cool 2 Cook. The purpose of the new venture is to encourage children and young people throughout Wales to go back to the kitchen to cook a meal by learning the technique of preparing food and taking an actual interest in where our food comes from and how it arrives on the plate.
Since a number of years we have been campaigning to expand our provision of teaching cookery in schools and to stress the importance of making plenty of time to properly educate children about food, food preparation and nutrition in everyday life.
Our new cookery book - Cool 2 Cook - is a colourful and attractive book full of delicious recipes and are full of fun to prepare - and they have all been designed to introduce food preparation for children.
The recipes include Welsh Beef Bolognaise in Cheesy Jackets; Pit stop Sausages; Welsh Lamb Crumble; Oriental Welsh Beef & Noodles and even a Fruit Berry Smoothie. The recipes use Welsh Lamb and Beef and plenty of fruit and vegetables.
We can't disregard the long term effect of this - our children are the consumers of the future and if it possible to educate them in their youth to enjoy food, about the importance of nutrition and food traceability, then we can step forward confidently knowing that tomorrow's consumers will demand fresh, local produce to cook.
