Author introduction:

Mererid Wigley was raised on Rhosdyrnog Farm, Talywern near Machynlleth, which has been in the family since the beginning of the 17th Century, and she was educated at Glantwymyn Primary School and Bro Ddyfi High School. She is a former member of the Bro Ddyfi Young Farmer's Club and competed in the County Rally, the Royal Welsh Show and the YFC Eisteddfod.

Mererid took an interest in creative writing whilst being a member of the YFC, and won the YFC County Eisteddfod Chair competition in three consecutive years when she was 17, 18 and 19 years old. She continued with the creative writing during her University years in Bangor, where she studied Welsh Literature and the Media. Whilst studying at Bangor, she occasionally worked for the BBC, working on youth radio shows such as Y Doctor Newyddion and Y Profiad - and then she went on to present local news bulletins from Aberystwyth.

After three years at University, Mererid moved to Cardiff to follow a post-graduate course in Broadcast Journalism, and then went on to join the BBC News Department. She got to work for a short while on the Newyddion programme for S4C before joining the Ffeil team - the news programme for children - where she spent six years reporting and presenting, and of course, met hundreds of children throughout Wales!

She turned down the advice not to work with children or animals when Mererid joined the Ffermio team in January 2005!
