Derwen Stud Sale 6th September 2008

Ifor, Myfanwy, Dyfed Lloyd, Mr Terry Court and Miss Catryn Bigley of Brightwells AuctioneersWith much of Wales suffering from flooding, Derwen Stud were fortunate to have a large indoor school to accommodate the Sale ring and a record number of enthusiasts and buyers, many of whom were from overseas.

Top of the Sale at £4,300 was the stunning nine-year-old mare Derwen Tina Maria, a grand-daughter of the 1955 Royal Welsh Champion, Cefnparc Boy. She was purchased by Mr Oliver of the Rhoswen Stud, Welshpool, Powys.

After fierce local bidding, the eight-year-old chestnut mare Derwen Maid of the Millennium with filly foal at foot sold to Mr Peter Gray of the Thorneyside Stud, Iver Heath for £4,100. Both these top mares were sired by Derwen Requiem. Mr Swistun of the Llanmorlais and Osbourn Studs, Swansea, paid £3,100 for Maid of the Millenium's dam, the twenty-year-old Tylan Maid which had been scanned in foal to Derwen Sea Adventure.

Derwen Rhian Felen - sold for £2,700 for Miss K Bladder, MalvernThe fifteen-year-old chestnut mare Derwen Gwendolyne, daughter of the 1985 Royal Welsh  champion Derwen Replica and with filly foal at foot, went to Norway ( Mrs I Jahr) for £4,000. 5 lots were sold to Sweden, 2 to Norway and 1 each to France and Switzerland.

The beautiful black two-year-old filly Derwen Tarddant was top of the youngstock, selling to Mrs C M Mathews of Bamton, Devon, for £3,800 and Fronarth Stud paid £3,200 for the eye-catching chestnut filly foal Derwen Duges y Môr.

48 lots sold, averaging £1,500 which represents a Sale total of £72,000.
