- What a busy year!
Following a busy year deputising for Gwen (Gwen Davies, Lady Ambassador 2008) I now take on the role of representing my county and the society in this, Glamorgan's, feature year.
I have a tough act to follow and after my ‘Elect' year I feel well prepared - although maybe not for the "Challenge Ambassador" part of proceedings! I am not sure what's in store for me after Gwen's pole climbing at last year's show but I look forward to finding out.
To say my time to date, even when Lady Ambassador Elect, was eventful would be an understatement having attended many fundraising events within our host county as well as the Smallholder and Garden festival and the pinnacle of our calendar that is the summer show.
Even as a young girl I watched the attractions in the main ring and longed to ride on John Parker's coach and now, through my role, I have made those girlish thoughts reality. At that time I did not fully understand the role of Lady Ambassador, or ‘Miss Royal Welsh' as it was then, and, like many around the ring that day, saw only the sash and pretty dress, but now I feel that I can confidently portray the message behind that image and I strive to be a true ambassador for the society, promoting the Royal Welsh to those who know little about the show and encouraging new blood into the society itself.
Having successfully completed my French and Spanish degree at Cardiff University, I am now based in our capital city, at Gambit Corporate Finance. Here I deal with succession planning issues not unlike those which face many within our farming community today.
My background is equestrian and after many years competing at the show it was somewhat strange to let someone else "take the reins" not that there was much time to ponder the issue as I was kept busy with a carefully honed schedule which allowed me to fully experience the spectacle that is the Royal Welsh Show... and in glorious sunshine, I may add.
I am looking forward to this year and I am going to try my best to educate people about the show and the importance of farming to the economy. It's a great honour to have been selected to be your Lady Ambassador in 2009 and I hope to meet you at one of our forthcoming events.
