Carmarthenshire and Brecknockshire farmers win trailers in Ffermio competition

Two Carmarthenshire farmers have won trailers together worth almost £5,000 in an annual competition run by the S4C farming series Ffermio. The trailers were supplied by Ifor Williams Trailers of Corwen, Debighshire. http://www.iwt.co.uk/.

The first prize winner was 29 year old Irwel Jones of Aberbranddu, Cwrt y Cadno, Pumsaint, who won a horse trailer HB506 with camera worth £3850. Irwel farms sheep and beef cattle on a 650-acre holding in partnership with his parents, Eirwyn and Heulwen Jones. A regular viewer of Ffermio, he is currently leader of Dyffryn Cothi Young Farmers' Club.

Winning a horse trailer has set Irwel something of a challenge - he hasn't got a horse. "Perhaps I'll have to buy one to fill the trailer," he joked. "I've regularly entered the Ffermio competition but have never been lucky before," said the young farmer who answered all the competition questions correctly.

The second prize, the livestock trailer TA510 worth £3500 went to Eurin Morgan, aged 26, of Pwll yr Hwyaid, Talybont-on-Usk.

"It's an excellent Christmas present and will be very useful," said Eurin who teaches geography in Abertillery Comprehensive School as well as farming sheep and beef cattle on 400 acres in partnership with his parents, Glasnant and Linda Morgan and his brother, Huw.

Another Carmarthenshire farmer, Nigel Thomas of Penlan Farm, Llanfynydd, won third prize, a motorcycle trailer with Motocinch, worth £800. Nigel Thomas runs a 200-acre dairy farm with his wife, Lisa and brother, Richard. Also a  regular viewer o Ffermio, Nigel runs an agricultural contracting business. He said, "Winning a motorcycle trailer is very helpful as we use a quad bike regularly on the farm."

Ffermio producer, Mererid Wigley, said: "We've had a record number of people competing this year, with 5,000 entries and over 3,000 of them via our website. The answer, if you hadn't guessed already, was ‘carbon'. I'd like to congratulate the winners and thank Ifor Williams trailers for donating three quality trailers again this year."
