Ffermio, the only series on UK television dedicated to agricultural issues, has provided an invaluable service for farmers since its launch in 1997. Ffermio consists of a weekly programme on S4C and a twice-weekly farming bulletin and weather forecast on S4C Digital. The series supplies detailed information for the farming world, while also extending its remit to include issues of interest to a wider audience.
Ffermio continues to provide an up-to-date forum for farmers and agricultural issues and to question politicians and union leaders about changes affecting the industry. It also addresses rural subjects in a way that appeals to both urban and rural audiences. The farming bulletins contain in-depth information on subjects such as legislation and market prices. This allows longer items in the half-hour programmes to feature topics of broader appeal such as organic food, transport, health and homes in rural areas and portraits of countryside characters of all ages and backgrounds. The weather broadcast which follows the farming bulletins contains new elements such as soil temperatures as well as a detailed 5-day forecast that will be useful to all.
