1. Aled Owen 644 points
Aled Owen is the
2008 World Sheep Dog Trials Champion. He won the trials with his dog
Roy with only one merit point separating him and second place. This is the farmer from
Corwen’s second World title. He also won the
World Sheep Dog trials held in
Bala in
2002.
2.Ron Snoeck 643 points
Ron Snoeck from the Netherlands came a close second to Aled Owen with his 6 year old bitch Nell. Only one merit point separated him from being crowned the Champion with his score of 643. This was his third World trials. He has won the Continental Sheep Dog Trials twice and The Netherlands International Championship three times, twice with Nell.
3. Stuart Davidson 623 points
Third place went to Stuart Davidson from Scotland with his five and a half year old dog Jim. Sixty year old Stuart is an old hand at this sport and has won the Scottish Championship 5 times in the past. He has also won the International Sheepdog Trials, but this was the first time he had competed at the World Trials.
4. James McGee 599 points
It was the
Irish Captain, James McGee, who claimed fourth spot with
599 points with his 5 year old bitch
Becca. James hails from
Creggan, near
Donegal in the
Republic of Ireland and has won the
Irish Sheepdog Championship twice in
2005 and
2007, and he came second in
2006.
5. Aiden Gallagher 595 points
Aiden Gallagher from
Ireland was competing with his 9 year old dog
Bill and came fifth in the final with a total of
595 points. He is a sheep farmer by trade and is a past winner of the
Irish Sheep Dog Trials.
6. Meirion Jones 589 points
It was the local favourite from nearby
Maesybont that claimed the sixth position with
589 points. He was competing with his dog
Joe. The farmer come agricultural contractor has played an integral part in organising the trials in his role as the
Chairman of the Trials.
7. Karin Mattssoon 570.5 points
Seventh place went to the only lady who reached the final,
Karin Mattson from
Norway with
570.5 points with her 7 year old bitch Sammie.
Karin is originally from
Sweden, but she met her partner through trialling and moved to be with him in
Norway. He also competed in the trials in
Llandeilo. She has been training sheepdogs since she was 11 years old.
8. Tony Ottesen 569 points
Denmark was represented in the top 10 by
Tony Ottesen who came eighth with a score of
569 with his 4 year old dog
Bob. Bob is the son of
Serge Van der Zweep’s dog, who represented the
Netherlands in the trials and
Aled Owen’s bitch. Tony won the
Scandinavian Championships this year.
